SEVEN STEPS TO AWARENESS AND A NUTRITIONAL CONSCIENCE

gurteshwarsandhu31

1. The body does not take in foods; it takes in and uses the chemicals (the com[1]pounds) in food. You have to see food as a compound you put in your body for the right reason: to nourish it.

2. One of society’s biggest issues is the addiction to certain compounds, such as opioids and illegal drugs. People medicate themselves to blunt emotions or escape life’s challenges.

3. Sugar is a powerful compound that acts on the same reward centers of the brain as other addictive drugs such as nicotine, cocaine, and opioids. In my opinion, and some experts agree with me, sugar may well be addictive. It is legal, available everywhere, and found in many foods. Sugar is also what the brain runs on, so when you have not eaten in many hours, sugar is what you reach for first.

4. Stress or boredom often manifest as an oral fixation (sensation), such as how a baby stops crying when you put a pacifier in his or her mouth. Humans also often drink, eat, smoke, or chew gum to help them calm down when they are anxious.

5. Society associates large food quantities of high-calorie foods with a good experience (a good time or a good deal), as in the food quality and quantity at an event or restaurant. So, you are culturally driven to consume large quantity of rich foods to celebrate. We don’t blow out birthday candles on a salad!

6. Every time you feel the urge to eat, ask yourself, “Am I hungry, bored, or anxious?” If you ate a few minutes or even an hour ago, you probably aren’t physically hungry. More likely, you are feeling an emotion such as boredom or anxiety.

7. Every time you eat, ask yourself, “Am I medicating, entertaining, or celebrating with food? Or am I nourishing my body?”
