Significantly, healing starts by feeling the wounds within the support of safe environments and people. Safe environments and supportive individuals are instrumental in creating a conducive space for healing to occur. Avoiding the pain associated with these wounds can hinder personal growth and well-being. The presence of safe individuals and environments is crucial in fostering a sense of security, enabling individuals to address and heal their core wounds effectively.

Role of Protectors in Healing Process Protectors, akin to dressings or bandages in physical healing, play a pivotal role in shielding individuals from further emotional injury. It’s a way of our own body protecting us from feeling something overwhelming when we just can’t handle it. For me personally, workaholism and overachieving were the perfect protectors. I thought if I look great on the outside and do what I think I need to do, achieve, or find success, then I must be doing this game called “life” correctly. Even positive things like working out or being successful can be distractions from the pain we have under it all. These protectors help manage pain, absorb distress, and protect the wounded area from external influences. By maintaining a nurturing environment, these protectors facilitate the body's natural healing processes, potentially enhancing the overall recovery outcomes.


The Recovery Journey Healing core wounds is an enlightening and awakening process, leading individuals to a deeper understanding of themselves. It involves returning to the parts of oneself that require love and care, acknowledging the adaptive behaviors developed to protect oneself, and developing compassion for one's experiences. Healing is not a quick process but rather a surrender to one's journey, fostering self-compassion and dependence on healthy support. It requires a loving presence to navigate the work of addressing deep-seated wounds, and neuroscience supports the significance of loving individuals in the healing process.
